EU Detergent Ingredient Information: Plan the Data Before the Label

An EU-market toilet cleaner may sit within more than one regulatory workstream. The final formula, intended use and classification determine which requirements apply.

Build the ingredient record from the final formula

Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 sets detergent rules that include ingredient-data provisions. Its Annex VII describes an ingredient datasheet and the publication of a website ingredient list, with specified exceptions. The website address must be easy to obtain from the packaging.

Do not confuse the ingredient page with an SDS

An ingredient webpage, a safety data sheet and a CLP label serve different purposes. Each should be built from controlled formula and supplier information. Copying content from a similar product can introduce incorrect ingredients, hazards or responsible-party details.

Name the responsible roles

Before artwork approval, confirm who manufactures, imports, places the product on the market, maintains the ingredient information and handles any required classification, UFI or poison-centre notification. Qualified regulatory review is still needed for the finished product and target countries.
